Women's Ice Hockey team gets ready for the 2011 Universiade

The Turkish Women's National Ice Hockey team quickened its preparations as there are 102 days left to the 2011 Winter Universiade to be held in Erzurum province between 27 January and 6 February, 2011.

One of Turkey’s representatives in 2011 Erzurum University Winter Games is the Women’s National Ice Hockey Team. The 33-member team continues trainings under the supervision of Coach Keith McAdams.
The team, comprising of 33 ladies, prepares to represent Turkey at the 2011 Erzurum winter Universiade. Although ice hockey is a brand new sport in Turkey and there are no great expectations from the women’s ice hockey team, coach McAdams thinks there is still 3 months ahead which will be enough to prepare the team for the games.
The world’s best 4 teams are coming to Turkey for the games, namely the USA, Russia, Canada, and Slovakia.
Girls answered questions why these countries are the best at ice hockey: “They have lots of ice rinks, even in rural areas. We have ice rinks in our capital, and now in some of our provinces. Lakes in Canada freeze over and they can practice there as well.” “They have many natural ice rinks and ice hockey became a lifestyle for them. They can learn it from their fathers and play it in their backyard. What wrestling means for us, ice hockey goes the same for them.”
Turkish Women’s National Ice Hockey Team will play against the USA, Slovakia, Canada and Russia.
